LEGAL AND REGULATORY CONTEXT
Brynteg Tigers Out of Hours Club is registered with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). We operate in accordance with all relevant national minimum standards. Our service is committed to maintaining full compliance with regulatory requirements and best practice guidance.
THE AIM
The aim of Brynteg Tigers Out of School Club is to provide high‑quality, accessible childcare outside of school hours. We offer a wide variety of play opportunities in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and supported.
As part of our commitment to early years development, we also provide Flying Start provision for 2‑year‑olds. This is an important part of our service because it gives younger children the opportunity to access high‑quality early education and care at a crucial stage in their development. Flying Start helps to build strong foundations in communication, social skills, and confidence, ensuring children are well prepared for the next steps in their learning journey.
NUMBERS OF CHILDREN CATERED FOR
- Care is provided for 2-year-olds in our Flying Start setting.
- We offer wraparound care for 3-year-old children who have completed their morning nursery session within Brynteg CP School.
- The After School Club and Holiday Club settings are open to children aged 3–11 years from any school.
- The club is registered to cater for up to 19 children at any one time.
Brynteg Tigers provides a child‑centred environment that supports the social, physical, intellectual, creative, and emotional development of every child.
LANGUAGES USED
- The main language of the club is English.
- Bilingual signage and incidental Welsh are used, where appropriate, to promote language awareness.
OPENING HOURS
- Flying Start: the morning session runs from 8:45 to 11am and the afternoon session runs from 12:15 to 2:45.
- Nursery Plus Provision: 11.30 am – 3.00 pm, Monday to Friday (term time only).
- After School Club: 3.00 pm – 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday (term time).
- Holiday Club: 8.00 am – 5.30 pm during most school holidays (excluding Christmas).

RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUAL
The Responsible Individual for Brynteg Tigers Out of Hours Club is Michelle Firth. She is accountable for the overall quality, safety, and compliance of the service. Michelle works in partnership with the staff team to ensure that the care provided meets the needs of children and families, and adheres to CIW standards.

Staffing ratios:
- Flying Start – 1 adult to every 4 children.
- Nursery Plus – 1 adult to every 8 children.
- After School Club – 1 adult to every 8 children.
Staff from Brynteg School will assist with supply cover or during lunch breaks.
Any staff member who supports the setting will be DBS checked and fully documented on service records for those days.
FOOD
- Ours Flying Start provision is Tiny Tums accredited, and we provide snacks that align with the nutritional standards set by this best practice award for early years settings.
- In Nursery Plus, children have a dedicated lunch period. Parents may provide a packed lunch, or a school meal can be purchased. Water is available throughout the session.
- In the After School and Holiday Club, children are provided with a snack and drink at the start of each session. All food provision accommodates dietary needs and preferences.
FACILITIES
- Flying Start: Facilities include a food preparation/dining area, play area, and outdoor play space. First aid facilities are available, along with personal storage space. The toilet area includes nappy changing facilities.
- Nursery Plus Provision: Children have access to indoor and outdoor play areas, toilets, and first aid facilities. Sessions take place in the Nursery classroom, with a wide range of age‑appropriate resources.
- After School Club/Holiday Club: Facilities include a food preparation/dining area, quiet space, play area, and outdoor play space. Toilet and first aid facilities are available, along with personal storage and administrative space.
Activities are planned weekly for Nursery Plus and After School/Holiday Club, offering opportunities for both structured and free play. Children are encouraged to contribute ideas for activities and equipment, ensuring their voices are heard in the planning process.
Our Flying Start provision embraces a “Planning in the Moment” approach, which allows staff to respond instantly to children’s interests and needs—creating rich, meaningful learning experiences that are child-led, spontaneous, and engaging.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR COMPLAINTS
The welfare of the children is our highest priority, and we aim to meet the needs of both children and parents/carers at all times.
